Meet the Band

Shirl Smith

My name is Shirl Smith. I was born Shirl Luffman in Elkin NC and grew up in Ronda NC, Winston-Salem NC and High Point NC. I have been married to my husband Alex for 24 years. We have two terrific children who are now quite grown. Kari is 18 and starting UNC-Greensboro fall 2006. Daniel is 17 and will be a senior in high school this year. My husband is retired Air Force (25 yr. veteran) so our family has seen a lot of this world. We've been to Washington DC, Okinawa, Nebraska, Italy, Illinois, and Turkey (the country). We've visited many countries such as France, England, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. My husband's last assignment in the military brought us to Pope AFB NC in August of 2001 where we now reside in Cameron NC. He recently became a Pastor of a local church and we are all excited about our new church family and the doors God is opening.

I was saved at a very young age and then rededicated my life to the Lord as an adult. When we moved to NC I wanted to continue witnessing for the Lord, so I prayed and began seeking. I had sung in a couple of Praise teams and choirs with our time overseas at the Chapels and had grown up singing the hymns in church and round our home. I auditioned for Angel Band in late August 2002. Janice, Portia, and Joyce invited me to join Angel Band in September 2002 and it has been a great love and honor to serve Our Lord with them as well as all the members of our Angel Band family. I know this is where God has chosen for me to be.

I currently work for a government contractor at Fort Bragg, NC as a Senior Logistician. I was deployed for 6 months to Afghanistan (Bagram AB) in 2004. While in Afghanistan I went to the base Chapel and sang on the Chapel Praise Team.

I want to thank all of you, our families, church families and friends for the support you have given and continue to give me and Angel Band. It is my mission to serve Christ for as long as he will allow and to reach others with a musical message of His Power and Glory. Jesus is my Lord and Savior and I am so thankful to be a child of God. God bless you all!

Shirl

P.S.  Keep Shirl in you prayers.  She is working in Iraq and will probably not be home until the end of the year.  She will rejoin the group Jan. 1, 2008.
